A GLAMOROUS night off from revision was enjoyed by Tadcaster Grammar School Year 11 pupils after a group of classmates organised a special ball.

More than 150 GCSE candidates attended the event in the hall at Askham Bryan College on Saturday to mark the start of study leave from the school next week.

Organiser Mike Robinson, 16, said: "Not everyone stays on at Tadcaster so we thought it would be nice if we arranged something.

"The school organises a leaving do for the Sixth Form, but they weren't particularly keen to do that for us, so we decided to have a go ourselves."

Mike, together with Year 11 students Amy Gilbank, Francesca Brewster, Katie Scott, Cara Jemison and Ashley Mason, planned the entire party, preparing a budget and negotiating knock-down prices for decorations and entertainment.

Mike said: "We were really worried at first in case we didn't make the money up, but it has worked out fine."

The pupils enjoyed music from Ska-band Captain Scarlet, whose members left the school last summer, and danced the night away to music from a local DJ.

Mike said: "Everyone had a really good night. The hard work was definitely worth it."
