THE Lord Mayor of York had plenty to smile about this Bank Holiday Weekend.

Hot on the heels of being re-elected to serve on City of York Council, Coun David Horton was chosen again - this time as someone's husband.

Coun Horton married Jane Robinson, of Barmby Road, Fulford, yesterday, at Barley Hall in York.

The civil wedding was then blessed in York Minster's Lady Chapel by the Dean, the Very Rev Raymond Furnell.

Jane is head of education at Stockton Hall Hospital. She first met Coun Horton, 61, when they worked at British Rail together in the 1970s. But they only met again two years ago when they ran into each other shopping in the Tesco store at Askham Bar.

The Lady Mayoress, Kathleen Gibson, the Lord Mayor's daughter from his first marriage, attended the wedding, which ended with a reception at the Mansion House yesterday evening.

Coun Horton said: "Whilst it is an unusual event to be undertaking during my mayoral year, I consider myself extremely lucky."
