YORK regained their equilibrium after the defeat at Scarborough the previous week by beating Barnsley by four wickets at Clifton Park.

York's captain Nigel Durham inserted Barnsley and his opening bowlers Rob Flack and Greg How rewarded him with a couple of early wickets each to reduce the visitors to 28 for four.

York's electric fielding took over, with two run-outs within a couple of overs.

Amid the carnage Indian overseas player Kulbushan stood firm with a top score of 59 not out. His partners fell to York spinners Dan Broadbent and Steve Piercy, but Mark Beardshall contributed a defiant knock before Flack returned along with newcomer Snell to finish off the innings in only 45 overs.

York's reply suffered an early setback with the loss of Piercy and Flack within five overs. However, Simon Mason assumed command with an authoriutative 39 in only 32 balls.

York then faced the threat from weather interruption and lost 38 minutes' play. With further rain imminent Marcus Wood took the attack to Barnsley and scored an exhilarating 58 in 60 balls, leaving Mike Mortimer to steer his side to victory with some powerful drives just before the rain set in again.

York swept to victory in only 27 overs.
