A FEAST of amazing local food was served last night to enthusiasts from across our region.

The exclusive Evening Press-Dean Court Eat Local Banquet attracted scores of guests from across York and North and East Yorkshire, as suppliers and guests met face-to-face to enjoy the best the region can produce.

From suppliers just setting out on their first tentative steps, to family businesses which have been around for generations, the banquet brought together the whole spectrum of local food.

Renowned cheesemaker Judy Bell said: "This is a fantastic project begun by the Press and the hotel.

"The Eat Local campaign is a real attempt to make a difference and support the local economy, and long may it continue.

"I am sure it will help tourists flock into the area, and is the way forward."

The guest of honour, Chris Chittell - Eric Pollard in YTV's Emmerdale series - explained his support for the event.

"We have seen tonight just what can be produced in this area, all expertly prepared by top chefs here at the hotel, and it is something you should all be very proud of.

"This was a top-notch meal, and a top-notch evening, and I am delighted to have been involved in such a successful and worthwhile campaign."

The event was passionately supported by the eight suppliers attending the feast, all of whom supply through Pickering-based company Moorsfresh.

Moorsfresh owner Nigel Brotherton said: "We were keen to get involved in this campaign and this event, and it has been a great occasion for us all.

"This is a marvellous showcase for local food, showing the depth and diversity of just what we can produce, and also the passion behind it. I am very proud."
