SO the reward for guiding the players through 18 months of upheaval and finishing within touching distance of the play-offs is the sack.

York City manager Terry Dolan only spent cash on one player and his eye for picking out young players on loan or free transfers was second to none.

The directors said the decision was made to benefit the long-term financial position of the club.

The majority of City supporters already know that once we leave our beloved Bootham Crescent for that empty shell at Huntington Stadium (with or without a running track) in the middle of nowhere, there will be no long-term future - full stop.

I THOUGHT former chairman John Batchelor had some hair-brained schemes but it seems the new City board of directors have surpassed them.

How can they save money by parting company with Terry Dolan and paying him not to work and then pay a player-manager.

They have let four of their key players - Christian Fox, Graham Potter, Tom Cowan and Chris Smith - go.

This does not inspire confidence or boost team morale and any on-loan players will just come for any money they can get.

Everybody knows what is happening at York City. Would you join a club that has released a manager and players on financial grounds? Not likely.

I was never a fan of Terry Dolan but this is a disgusting way to treat him.
