REPLICAS of the Wright Flyer and Cayley Glider will go on show at the Yorkshire Air Museum, at Elvington, to celebrate 100 years of flight.
Orville and Wilbur Wright took to the skies in the Wright Flyer in 1903, and four years ago, with a £100,000 lottery grant, the museum acquired a replica of the machine and restored it.
The Cayley Glider is a replica of a machine designed in 1852 by North Yorkshire aviation pioneer Sir George Cayley.
The design, called the Governable Parachute was not actually built and flown until 1970, and has now also been acquired by the museum.
Sir George is famous for building an aircraft in 1849 which carried a ten-year-old boy at Brompton Dale, near Scarborough. It was the first time a human had flown in a fixed-wing aircraft.
A spokesman for the museum said the displays, which will be shown tomorrow at the 100 Years Of Flight Show, had generated interest from across the world.
