A PROMISING York dancer who has won a place at a prestigious ballet school is appealing for sponsors to help her realise her dream.

Katie Lockhart, 16, pirouetted her way to success at auditions for the Northern Ballet School, in Manchester.

Katie, of Gillygate, who has been dancing with the Patricia Veal School of Ballet and Modern Dance since she was four, is now striving to raise the cash to allow her to take up her hard-earned place in September.

Her mother, Angie, said: "It's like a dream for Katie. She's always wanted to be a professional dancer, it's like a chance in a lifetime for her.

"We simply don't have the funding but we're trying everything that we can, sponsorship is the key really. "We've had to pay £50 to reserve the place for her, and we're just hoping we can raise the money before then."

Anyone who can help Katie should phone Angie Lockhart on 01904 625957.
