DUNNINGTON'S hopes of becoming the first York Senior League side to win the Black Sheep Yorkshire Champions Trophy were ended at Pudsey Congs.

A hat-trick by home bowler Hussein snatched an eight-run victory for the Bradford League champions.

Earlier Hussein had made 30 to help Pudsey Congs make 169-6 in a game reduced to 35 overs. Collis King, with 47, and Harwood Williams' 45 appeared to have put the York side in command before the trio of wickets sent them to 161 all out.

Two of the York League's teams had the disappointment of their games being rained off in the National Village Knock-out Competition when they were in a strong position.

Sheriff Hutton Bridge had dismissed Folkton and Flixton, of the Scarborough Beckett League for 103 when a storm ended play at tea-time - The game will now take place at Sheriff Hutton Bridge on Sunday.

Sessay were also denied the opportunity of pressing for victory against a Scarborough Beckett League side when their home tie with Cayton was abandoned after they had reached well over 100 for the loss of two wickets. With the tie being re-arranged for next Sunday, the two Sessay players, Nick Harrison and Steve Langstaff, have had to pull out of the League's Under 21 team which is scheduled for the same day against the Doncaster League at Scholes.

With the York Senior League's representative side due to travel to Treeton to meet the South Yorkshire League on Sunday, July 6 in the Costcutter Yorkshire Senior Leagues' KO Trophy semi-final, steps are being taken to re-arrange the four quarter-final ties in the Hunters York League Cup in order to ensure player availability for the inter-league encounter.

Pickering's Wendy Brown who played a major role in Yorkshire North Riding Ladies' massive 330 runs win over Stocksfield in the Ladies national Knock-out competition.

Brown, who was selected to travel to Kenya with Yorkshire Under 19 Ladies prior to the cancellation of the tour because of that country's political situation, produced a devastating spell which saw her take seven wickets for just nine runs as Stocksfield were blown away for a mere 23 runs.

Earlier Sue Metcalfe had hit 130 to help the North Riding side post a total of 353-6.

York Ladies returned to winning ways with a narrow win over Yapham Ladies by three runs.

Yapham batted first and steadily built up a reasonable total of 240 helped by some powerful hitting by their last pair.

York were making steady progress towards victory but were helped by three dropped catches off York's third pair which would have set them back below the par of 200.

The Clifton Park side's last pair secured victory but not before conceding a run-out and a catch behind the wicket off Hazel Coulson, Yapham's leading bowler.
