A HEROIN addict was jailed for six months for a three-year crime spree against shops in York.

Melanie Jane Small, 20, of Woolnough Avenue, Tang Hall, admitted eight offences of theft, four of handling or receiving stolen goods, two each of deception and attempted deception and six failures to attend court. The offences were committed between February 2001 and May 2003.

York magistrates said she had failed to take chances to reform herself, and locked her up for six months.

Her solicitor, Kevin Blount, said she had problems involving her home and her personal relationships.
