THE 55 steps to Clifford's Tower are enough to give anyone mild palpitations.
Yet Philip Fisher had more reason than most to feel his pulse race.
This had nothing to do with exertion, however - but the taking of another, altogether bigger, step.
Philip wanted a suitably impressive setting to propose to his girlfriend Justine Swailes, so he arranged for Clifford's Tower to be kept open late.
Justine thought she was going to see the Canterbury Tales - but she was really going to a fairytale of her own.
