WISTOW went top of Fulford Ladies' Invitation Tennis League division three when they beat Cliffe in a thriller.

Cliffe led 22-16 after the first round but Wistow clawed their way back to win 58-50 to lead the division by a point from Dunning-ton, who have a game in hand.

Judith Peeke-Vout and Margaret Jenkins top scored with 24 games as Dunnington beat Selby 69-39.

Poppleton beat Boston Spa in division five without dropping a single rubber, Sally Bvell-Syer and Lynn Coop leading the way with 27 games. The result moved Pop to joint top alongside Dunnington, who have a better games difference.

In division four, Wigginton hammered Strensall 88-20, six of the nine rubbers finishing in double figures.

Sheriff Hutton are still looking for their first win after losing 59-49 to Wheldrake, whose first string, Sally Simpson and Caroline Hadlington, amassed 22 games.

There were wins for York, Fulford, Tadcaster and Poppleton in division one.

Christine Place and Helen Leach top scored with 28 games as York defeated Civil Service 79-29. Anna Baker and Di Eker were in full flight, winning 11-1 9-3 11-1 to rattle up 31 games, their highest total of the season, as Fulford beat Dunnington.

Tadcaster enjoyed their first win, beating struggling Bubwith 82-26 with Jane Firn and Debbie Young unbeaten.

Sue Yoward and Fran Critchley (Bishopthorpe) had three victories against Poppleton, but still ended up on the losing side.

Castlegarth went top of division two after beating New Earswick 87-21.

York moved in to second place with Danielle Cortine and Emily Roberts chalking up three 10-2 wins in their 64-44 victory over Knaresborough.

Marilyn Almgill and her daughter, Emma, were unbeaten for Appleton Roebuck, but could not prevent Copmanthorpe from winning 58-50.
