STAFF and pupils at a York primary school are celebrating the completion of their school extension.
Westfield Primary School, in Acomb, now has two extra classrooms for its 700 pupils, thanks to the new building.
The extension, which links the school's buildings, also houses an administrative office and a new staff room.
The extension had been planned for two years, following the merger of Westfield Infant and Junior schools in September 2001. Westfield is the largest primary school in York.
A school spokesman said: "This extension is very welcome to us.
"It's a lovely building and we're very pleased.
"Before the extension we had to go through the dining room to get between the infant and junior sections.
"Two years is obviously a long time to wait, but we're very glad it's finally here."
