FANS of York City are to stage a fund-raising six-a-side tournament later this month and are appealing for teams to take part.

The tournament will be staged on Saturday, July 19, on the all-weather pitches at Huntington School.

So far organisers have reported a "fantastic response" from teams from as far afield as London, Newcastle and Scarborough looking to take part in what is hoped will become an annual festival of football.

The cost is £60 per team to enter with a maximum of nine players per squad and those interested in taking part should send their team name and contact details to fansmatch@postmaster.co.uk

Further details and information about the competition can also be found at the tournament website at www16.brinkster.com/fansmatch

Alternatively, teams can enter or request further information by writing to Fans Match, c/o 6 Stoke Close, Belper, Derbyshire DE56 0DN or by calling Richard Willis on 01773 827931 after 6pm

All proceeds from the tournament will be split between the York City Supporters' Trust and a charity.

The tournament is being organised by users of fan-forum www.yorkcityfc.com and the York Nomad Society, who are also appealing for offers of sponsorship.

Referees who would also be willing to offer their services and fans willing to help in the organisation of the tournament are also being urged to come forward.

The closing date for team entries is Friday, July 11.
