Fulford GC had a clean sweep in the York Union of Golf Clubs' Seniors Championship, where home advantage played into the hands of the top three finishers.

Ten-handicapper Stuart Gregory was first on 42 points ahead of Fulford club-mates Kevin Maguire (14), also on 42, and David Kelly (9) on 40. In the Reed Trophy played at the York GC, Heworth's Cliff Harrington (28) won with 41 points, three clear of Malton and Norton's John Ainsworth (25).

Country life

Second place helped to book a big celebration at The Oaks GC's mixed open.

Victory went to the Driffield pairing of Mr and Mrs R Ashton on 45 points, one ahead of Mr and Mrs Trevor Morris of the Hickleton club in runners-up spot.

But for Mrs Linda Morris (pictured above) there was the considerable consolation of winning a weekend for two at the St Mellion Golf and Country Club in Cornwall after she had a hole in one on the 15th. The prize was provided by Brian Leighton garage.

Rayne parade

RAYNE by name, reign by nature, was the all-conquering destiny of Pauline Rayne. She notched a magnificent 44 stableford points to win the Forest Park FC's lady Captain's Day after which her handicap was trimmed by four shots. From Rayne's whirl it became Wayne's world as Wayne Pendall retained his club championship crown with a gross 153 after rounds of 75 and 78. Meanwhile, the July medal was won by Phil Stirk with a nett 65 for which two shots were lopped off his handicap.

Mail shot magic

FULFORD'S Andy Jackson (five handicap) and Robert Howcroft (12) rallied from two down at the 14th to beat Gary Larvin (7) and Paul Masterman (14) to earn a fifth round tie at Aldwark Manor in the national Daily Mail foursomes.

Sixth appeal

GANTON'S ex-Great Britain international Mike Kelley was joint sixth in the English Golf Union northern seniors' championship at Filey GC. Kelley carded 149 (80 69) with the title going to Appleby's Andrew Morrison 144 (69 75).

Ace invitation

Ken Hessay holed in one with a seven-iron at the 167-yard fifth par-three hole at Fulford's Invitation Day won by Daryl Robinson, Steve Spear, Tony Sadler and Martin Schneider.
