YORK City player-manager Chris Brass still has a seasoned goalkeeper in his sights ahead of today's gun-totin' routine.

The City squad took a break from their intensive pre-season training camp at Keele University today for a bond-strengthening paint-balling session. But the prime target for Brass remains getting an experienced number one after losing out on a return to Bootham Crescent for Marlon Beresford.

Brass told the Evening Press today that he was hopeful of having a 'keeper in tow for Wednesday's home friendly against Premiership outfit Leeds United, kick-off 7.45pm.

"I am trying to get an older head in - that's what we want. Hopefully that will be done for the Leeds game and we might have a couple more trialists in as well," said Brass.

Definitely back into the reckoning for the midweek visit of Peter Reid's men will be newly-appointed City skipper Darren Edmondson, fellow defender Chris Smith and striker Jon Parkin. All missed the opening friendly against Sunderland last week with various injury niggles, but all three have trained at Keele and are ready to return.

City's youth team will want to shine tonight as they face Selby Town at Flaxley Road - as a place in the squad for City's first-team match against Leeds could be up for grabs.

Youth team boss Paul Stancliffe says his players are in with a shout of making that line-up.

"We've got a new intake of first years and they will be involved tonight," he said. "All the players will be putting themselves in the frame for the Leeds game, or at least a place on the bench, so it won't do them any harm to put in a good performance."

The YTs, who beat Wakefield College Under-19s 1-0 in a run-out on Thursday, take on Selby (KO 7pm) for the annual Inshops Selby Day Centre Trophy, which City have won on penalties in the last three seasons.
