York City Knights boss Paul Broadbent said records were not important after his side re-wrote their history books yesterday.

The Knights hammered London Skolars 66-6 at New River Stadium to register their biggest-ever win and their biggest-ever score, while Danny Brough scored a club record 11 goals and 26 individual points and Mark Cain grabbed their first-ever hat-trick.

They also handed the Skolars - whose only point this season came in a surprise 16-16 draw against York at Huntington Stadium in May -- the biggest home defeat of their professional era.

However, Broadbent was more happy with the fact his side had played well and secured the two National League Two points with their sixth win in seven games, although results elsewhere in an increasingly tight division mean they remain in sixth place.

"Records are by the by for me," Broadbent told the Evening Press. "The main thing is we won and the second thing is we came up with a competent performance. If you do that it goes that you are playing some reasonable stuff."

The Knights arrived at the ground later than planned because the journey time from their hotel was longer than they had been told, but Broadbent was not too perturbed. "The guys stayed focused and we came up with the goods," he said.

"London Skolars tried hard and never gave in but we're playing some pretty decent stuff at the moment and we really tested them in pretty much all areas of the field.

"That's the most pleasing thing. We've got players who are capable of doing the right things at the right time.

"As long as we don't get carried away, we can cause most teams trouble."

Broadbent had words of praise for in-form half-backs Brough and Scott Rhodes, new boy Joe Helme, who made his debut off the bench and worked hard up front, and winger Rob Kama, who finally registered his first Knights' try after having missed a couple of earlier chances.

"Generally it was a very good team performance," said Broadbent. "Our half-backs came up pretty well again, which is becoming a common part of our performances. When they are firing, we're looking all right. We've got plenty of people who make themselves available off the ball and that's creating spaces and if the opposition step up we're able to put other guys in space.

"Joe came through it pretty well, he was carrying the ball strongly and working hard, and I was pleased for Rob Kama.

"He could have had a couple of tries but he's still learning the game. When he did score, it was a real big effort, opening up the defence, getting the pass out and then supporting Alex (Godfrey) to get the ball back and score.

"That try showed the measure of his enthusiasm, which we've all been impressed with."
