WINGER Rob Kama has spoken of his relief after finally getting on the scoreboard for York City Knights.

The Knights have scored 26 tries and racked up 176 points in the four games Kama has been involved in since joining from York RUFC, but the 26-year-old had not crossed the whitewash himself until scoring a stunning try in the 66-6 win at London Skolars on Sunday.

The Fijian flyer had missed a few chances earlier in the game, and it looked as if it would not be his day when he slipped as he straightened up with the line at his mercy. But it all came good in style as he scored the try of the match late on, beating several men in his own half then playing a one-two with Alex Godfrey to score.

"There's no point doing things in halves," he joked. "If you are going to score your first try you might as well make it a good one."

He added: "It was a long time coming. For a while there I thought I had been jinxed.

"There were a couple of tries I came close to getting and (team-mate) Neil Law said to me to relax and enjoy it, and if you mess up, you mess up, there's nothing you can do about it. And that helped my confidence.

"Every game is a learning curve and I'm delighted I've finally broken the jinx and scored.

"The support from the boys on the field has been great and has helped me a lot. They've supported me really well, saying to keep it going and that the more consistent you are and the more reliable you are, the better. If they have the trust in you and know you are going to be there then the chances will come."

He added: "I thought the performance was excellent. We had a few spells where we lacked consistency but apart from that it was good to stuff them."
