THIS is the damage left by yobs who targeted the home of a York single parent.

Police have arrested two youths in connection with the attack on the home of Jeanette Bennett, 35, during which:

white paint was thrown over the front of her house

her door was attacked with a brick

eggs and other food were smeared over her windows

Ms Bennett said the weekend's attacks on her house in the Foxwood area of York were the latest in a string of incidents which have left her at the end of her tether.

She said she had had windows broken 14 times and her door had been attacked to the point at which it caved in.

Ms Bennett said she is a cancer sufferer and that two of her three children, Kelly, 16, Amanda, 15 and David,10, were also unwell.

"We feel scared all the time, I can't get to sleep at night," she said.

Ms Bennett said that the harassment had driven her to depression. She felt she had been "singled out" as an easy target because of her and her children's illness.

She wants to be relocated, but said she was only offered housing in an area she considered unsuitable for her and her children as crime victims.

"The people at York Council have only put us down on a waiting list. It feels like they've just turned a blind eye," she said.

Lesley Healey, access and support group manager, at City of York Council, said: "Ms Bennett was offered a property within her area of choice in May this year, but she decided not to accept it.

"Unfortunately, Ms Bennett has specified very limited areas where she would like to move and she is competing with a large number of people on the waiting list, so it has not been possible to find her an alternative property which she is happy with as yet.
