HARROGATE Town got off the mark in the UniBond League premier division last night with a 1-0 home win over North Yorkshire rivals Whitby Town.
The winner in a scrappy game came 11 minutes from time when, after the ball had rebounded off a post, former York City youngster James Turley fired into the corner.
Whitby's hard-working defence had ensured there were few chances in the first half and again in the second, when the game became a bit niggly with ten yellow cards dished out by referee Andrew Smith.
The visitors looked to threaten more after the break but were undone when Colin Hunter's shot hit the upright and Turley knocked the ball home.
Both goalkeepers were then troubled as the game opened up but no more goals followed.
