York City's communications director Sophie McGill is one of four Supporters' Trust board members who will have to seek re-election to the fans' organisation's ruling council.

Should McGill fail to win re-election in December then the make-up of the football club's board of directors would have to change.

The countdown to the Trust's elections has started with four Trust board positions up for grabs ahead of the organisation's annual meeting at the end of the year.

Joining McGill in seeking re-election is Paul Rawnsley, who along with McGill was chosen at random from the nine elected Trust board members.

By coincidence, McGill and Rawnsley were the two Trust board members with the most votes at the first election in June last year.

Also standing for election will be Peter Rookes, who is filling a vacancy on the Trust board and must stand under Trust rules, and Ian Hey, a co-opted board member who has volunteered to stand.

The elections and AGM are for the Supporters' Trust and not the football club, which is a separate legal entity owned by the fans' body.

The operations of York City are overseen by the club's board of directors, which includes McGill, her brother, Jason, Mike Brown, chairman Steve Beck, Terry Doyle and Ian McAndrew, and not the Trust board.

As the majority shareholder of the club, the Trust board plays a supervisory role over the club's operations.

Under club and Trust rules, the City board should always have at least as many directors who are also Trust board members as other directors.

If McGill is not re-elected to the Trust board, the Trust would need to consider changes to the make-up of the club board because Doyle, McAndrew and Jason McGill are not Trust board members.

Trust Secretary Stan Collins said: "The Trust is planning to hold its AGM in December and the election results will be announced that night.

"Trust members will have both the opportunity to stand for election themselves and, when the time comes, to vote for their fellow supporters."

Within the next few weeks, the Trust will be inviting members to be nominated to stand for the election. Candidates need to be over 18, members of the Trust on September 30, and be willing and able to attend regular board meetings.

The election will take place by postal ballot during the weeks preceding the AGM.

Under the Trust's constitution, a third of the Trust board positions must be put up for re-election each year. In June last year, around 900 members voted, representing around 65 per cent of the membership.

The Trust now has more 1,900 members and includes 394 life members. Officials are hopeful that membership will break the 2,000 barrier and life membership beyond 400 by the end of September.

Annual Trust membership, priced £10, continues to be available and will run to June 2004.

York City reserves were in action today for the first time this season when they entertained Scunthorpe United at Bootham Crescent, kick-off 2pm.

Included in the starting line-up was Tranmere Rovers striker Paul Robinson.

City: Porter, Downes, Laws, Davies, Jones, Anderson, Cooper, Brackstone, McKenzie, Robinson, Arthur. Subs: to be announced.
