IT IS possible to tire of Cuban music, which has been flogged half to death since the release of the Buena Vista Social Club. And perhaps there are only so many Cuban records a person needs - or rumba rhythms come to that. Yet this is a sprightly and enjoyable compilation, bringing together such familiar Cuban names as Ruben Gonzalez, Ibramim Ferrer and Compay Segundo. The album's title translates as Made In Cuba and the tracks polished up for show here have been taken from the original master tapes of Havana's Egrem Studios. Highlights are plenty, from the opening track by Segundo, Te Apartes De Mi, to the smoke-slurred jazz of Gonzalez's Como Siento Yo. For anyone who has yet to experience the intoxicating joys of Cuban music, this compilation offers a perfect introduction. Those with Cuban CDs to spare may have less of a reason to buy.
