STORMING Selby Town netted another hatful against Northern Counties East League premier division strugglers Mickleover Sports.

The Robins scored a high-five for the second time in a week and kept a clean sheet to maintain their four-points lead at the top.

Mickleover started brightly but after six minutes Town striker Joe Gaughan flighted a ball into the box which should have been cleared but fell to Andy Cygan to side-foot home.

Mickleover's confidence evaporated after the soft goal and on 35 minutes Town doubled their lead. Winger Matthew Wain met a thundering Andy Hart corner with a leaping header at the near post.

After the break Gaughan was clear through to make it 3-0 but keeper Mark Wilson palmed the ball away outside the box and was shown the red card

The inexperienced stand-in let in substitute Steve Ward five minutes later when a short kick fell to the striker, who volleyed into the top right-hand corner from 15 yards.

On 80 minutes another substitute Michael Barnett found Andy Cygan in space to tuck it past the 'keeper from close range.

And the centre forward completed his hat-trick on 90 minutes with a curling free-kick from the edge of the box.

"We didn't play that well but we are finally taking our chances, and importantly for me are keeping the clean sheets too," said Town manager Bob Lyon.

"We have been looking at a few new players, but that should just make sure everyone keeps on their toes and keeps getting these results."

Harrogate Town and Pickering Town both missed out on a place in the third qualifying round of the FA Cup.

Barrow were fortunate 2-0 winners in a tie that Harrogate dominated for long periods.

The Cumbrian team took a controversial lead on 17 minutes when former York City striker Neil Campbell appeared to shove Simon Sturdy before finding the net.

Simon Parke thought he had put Harrogate back on level terms but his effort that appeared to have crossed the line by at least a foot was cleared and play waved on.

Home 'keeper Andy Bishop then made a string of stunning saves to deny Colin Hunter and Mark Ford before Mark Hume - one of four ex-Doncaster Rovers players in Barrow's team - settled the tie.

Pickering turned in a disappointing display as they went out 1-0 at home to NCEL rivals Ossett Albion.

Rob Ward got the only goal of the game on 22 minutes.

Harrogate Railway, last year's FA Cup heroes, grabbed a vital NCEL premier division point at Hallam.

Lowly Railway drew 1-1 thanks to a 50th-minute Martin Francis own goal.

Craig Worsfold had earlier given the Sheffield hosts a first-half lead.

Tadcaster Albion continued to struggle in division one after losing 3-0 at Sutton Town.

Dominic Elliott grabbed all three goals in the first 29 minutes and only Pontefract Collieries are now keeping Albion off the foot of the table.
