PICKERING Town ended Selby's unbeaten start to the season last night thanks to a last-gasp winner from Ricky Greening.

The Pikes beat table-topping Selby 3-2, Greening heading home in the 89th minute to lift his team up to sixth spot in the Northern Counties East League's premier division table.

Joe Gaughan had earlier shot Selby in front on ten minutes and that is how the scoreline stayed at half-time.

But two goals in as many minutes turned the game on its head in the second half.

First, Danny Farthing headed in from a corner on 68 minutes and then, moments later, Mark Wood gave Pickering the lead.

Selby got back on level terms on 75 minutes when home goalkeeper Kevin Martin let Russell Varly's 35-yard shot slip through his fingers.

Greening then pounced to head in from close range after a penalty box scramble.

Division One's bottom club Tadcaster Albion can concentrate on improving their league position after losing 2-1 in the first round of the League Cup at home to Pontefract Collieries.

Backley got Albion's goal but a Mark Smith brace clinched victory for Pontefract.
