CHILDREN from schools across York will be getting involved in a four-day festival to celebrate the digital arts.

Education will play a key role in the SightSonic 2003 - York's International Festival of Digital Arts which is supported by Science City York.

As reported in yesterday's Evening Press, the event, now in its fourth year, kicks off on October 16, and will see more than 35 events taking place at 11 venues.

Fiz Yazdi, the producer of SightSonic 2003, said: "Education plays a key part in this festival, as it gives students involved in studying digital arts a great opportunity to both display their work and see what other training and creative pathways they could follow."

Children from Tang Hall, Poppleton-Ouse Bank, Lidgett Grove and Galtres schools will be taking part in a Schools Showcase.

There will also be conference on the use of digital arts for people with special needs. Visitors to the conference can see how technology provides opportunities for people of all abilities to express themselves. York College students will be showing an exhibition of images which are a combination of digital photographs and computer-generated text. Youngsters can also take part in the Fluid Digital Arts Trail - a trail around the city for 11 to 16-year-olds.
