YORK Rugby Union Club's youth section fielded six teams for the Ken Habergham Rugby Festival at Morley and came home with three tournament victories.

The winning trio of Clifton Park sides were at Under-11, U9 and U8 level.

For the U11s, the Yorkshire champions, it was their fifth successive victory at the tournament.

They opened with a 25-0 win against Yarnbury, followed by a 30-0 hammering of host club Morley.

A tense and hard fought match against Pocklington followed with York doing well to keep Pock at bay after the young Percy Roaders were awarded four consecutive five-metre penalties. York weathered the storm and sealed victory with three tries.

In the final game, the Old Brodlieans side found themselves unable to dent the York defence and York ran in four tries to complete their domination of the group, having scored 90 points in four games and conceded none.

Fly-half Stuart Leigh scored four tries and set up Frankie Whitaker for another as York U9s beat Yarnbury 25-5 in their opening match.

Two more tries by Leigh and one each from Matthew Withers, Henry Scroggs and Harry Hall secured a 25-0 victory over Morley.

Another 25-0 win against Pocklington followed, hooker Oliver Hicks crashing over two tries followed by Hall, Scroggs and Lee.

York met Old Brodlieans in the decider and the West Yorkshire side scored two breakaway tries before half-time.

However, York hit back after Connor Whitby and George Topliss had scores disallowed when Harry Scurr shrugged off two tacklers to touchdown.

Another Whitby try was ruled out before the end and although York lost by one score they lifted the trophy as clear winners on points difference.

York's U8s continued where they left off last season.

The club entered two teams in the year group, the 'A' team winning the tournament without losing a game, scoring 29 tries and conceding only seven.

Highlights were some powerful bursts down the middle from William Scholey, Oliver Inman and newcomer Campbell Thomson and a cluster of tries being run in by Charlie Elliot.

The 'B' team won all their matches bar the one against their own 'A' team, with a try tally of 30 for and only 13 against. Notable contributions were made by Alex Machin and William Pepper.
