HOW would you like a top York chef to come into your home and cook a delicious five-course meal for six?

That is the prize which can be won in a raffle being organised to raise funds for York cancer sufferer Chris Nelson.

The Evening Press reported earlier this week how Chris's friends and former Nestl colleagues are trying to raise £7,000 to pay for complementary therapy as she battles against terminal cancer.

Chris, 56, from Heworth, will shortly begin taking 43 different minerals, vitamins and other natural substances from around the world in an effort to boost her immune system and attack the cancer.

The course, prescribed by a Harley Street cancer specialist, will include 197 tablets and capsules a day.

Chris said she was not looking for a miracle, but was determined to continue living as healthily as possible for as long as possible.

A range of events, from a belly-dancing display to a musical evening, has already raised £4,000.

Now Danny Cartwright, head chef at Sainsbury's Monk's Cross store, who has worked at the Dorchester, Savoy and Grosvenor House hotels in London in the past, has stepped in to help the fund-raising drive.

He has agreed to cook a meal for six people with wine in their own home, bringing all the ingredients with him.

Raffle tickets costing £1 are available from his colleagues in the store, but members of the public can obtain them by phoning fundraising co-ordinator Jean Boggan on 01904 415743. People can also buy the raffle tickets by calling in to Plumb Center in James Street, said Jean.

She said more fundraising events were planned, and also revealed that people had begun phoning her after reading the Evening Press article earlier this week, offering to make donations as well.
