FALL guys Heworth are out to scale a fresh peak after returning to the winning track.

The Black and Whites, who will have to submit a re-election bid for the Arriva Trains Conference second division, are nevertheless seeking a glorious finish to the season.

After hammering hosts Widnes St Maries last week, Heworth now have Castleford Panthers in their sights when they entertain the championship-chasers on Saturday.

Panthers make the trip to Elm Park Way on the same 38 points tally as leaders East Hull, whom they trail by points difference alone.

That slender gap ensures they will be going flat-out for an away success to keep up the pressure on East Hull. But such fierce determination to prevail will be matched by the hosts, who want to sign off the ill-starred campaign with a flourish.

Said coach Brendan Carlyle: "The pressure was off us last week at Widnes and so we went out and enjoyed the game.

"It would be great if we could repeat that against the Panthers. It's obviously going to be a different and a difficult match but we want to get a run going ahead of our final game against York Acorn.

"If we can get the same sort of level of performance and commitment, you never know, we could come up with a shock."

Heworth will be boosted by the return of prop Lee Clark after his wife gave birth to their first son and also available to boost the forward strength of the Villagers is second rower Nige Wilson.

Acorn's senior ranks are without a game, but that does not necessarily mean that first-teamers will suddenly swamp the Acorn 'A' side, who are within touching distance of the Pennine League division five crown.

Victory at home to Wetherby on Saturday would guarantee an outright hold of the championship for the Acorn second-string.

Club coach Dave Kay said the seconds' manager Ian Hann was likely to keep faith with the charges who have won 17 out of their 19 games so far.

Hill said that would be a major reward for club stalwarts Mick Calam, Tom Galloway, Billy Fox and Gary Taylor, all significant contributors to the A'-team's ascent to the top.

Elsewhere in division five, there's a derby clash as Selby Warriors welcome York Groves minus forwards Mark Hansen (broken ankle) and Craig Daltry (broken jaw).

But back for the Warriors come hooker Mark Smith and full-back Andy Germaine.

Fourth-placed New Earswick All Blacks will be keeping a keen gaze trained on the CS Yorkshire League senior division clash between Kippax and Batley Boys.

The outcome could determine whether the New Earswick ranks finish in the play-off places.
