The day got better as it wore on for Yorkshire's new Australian all-rounder, Ian Harvey on Wednesday.

It began by Harvey being disappointed to see on television that his name was not included in Australia's one-day squad for the tour of Zimbabwe.

But after receiving the sympathy of director of cricket David Byas and his county team-mates, Harvey then rang his wife in Australia and discovered that he was in the squad after all and that his name had been mistakenly missed from the list on Ceefax.

Although pleased that Harvey had been called up by his country, it was an added problem for Byas who was already pondering over whether he should try to plug the gap created by Darren Lehmann's selection in both the Test and one-day squads.

Had only Lehmann been packing his bags for a while then Byas would probably have decided to rely on his present playing staff to see Yorkshire through but now he is having to think deeper about the situation.

"I was a bit surprised to see Darren in both squads and we will have to consider a replacement but I will only go down that road if a top player is available, someone better than what we have already got," said Byas.

"It has to be remembered that Anthony McGrath should be back with us before we lose Lehmann and Harvey and that should give our batting an important boost.

"There is no-one definite in mind at the moment but we will have to act soon if we are going to bring someone in. We certainly won't be looking for two replacements."

Lehmann is expected to miss four Championship matches, four totesport League games and one C&G Trophy fixture while Harvey may miss two Championship and two totesport League matches.

The Test series in Zimbabwe begins on May 17 with Lehmann having to report to Australia a few days before then and Harvey will have to join his squad by the end of next month.
