THE 40-peg Sunday open on match lake and Cyprio at Carpvale saw John Fletcher (Ripon) score an easy win from peg 52 on the match lake.

Fishing pole and pellet tight to an island 15 metres away he netted carp to 8lb and tench to 5lb for a winning 54lb 8oz.

Well behind was Paul Fawcett (Bob.Co) who fished pole and worm over chopped worm into open water on peg 28 for 29lb 2oz of tench and bream to 5lb.

Cliff Lofthouse (Ripon) took third from peg 25 0n the same lake with 24-9-0 of carp and tench to pole and pellet.

Best fish of the day was taken by Acomb angler John Haw who landed the fine ghost carp, weighing 9lb, on pole and meat from peg 15.

Others: Martin Dodsworth (Knaresborough) 21-4-0, Steve Sharples (Bob.Co) 21-0-0 and Andy Gallant (Bob.Co) 19-12-0.

The Saturday open at the Willows saw pegs on Ridgepool dominate again as Tony Hewson (Leeds Angling Centre) topped the 46-entry.

Drawn on peg 25 he fished shallow with pole and meat for 56lb 4oz of carp to 8lb.

Steve Sharples (Leeds) was close-by on peg 23 where he fished shallow with meat to the island for his all carp net of 50lb 2oz. The contest would have taken a different course but for the loss of 15 big carp.

Others: Tom Rogers (Bob.Co) 44-12-0, Graham Boardley (Bob.Co) 38-4-0, John Matthers (Bob.Co) 34-6-0 and Ray Marklew (Colmic Ossett) 34-2-0.

The penultimate spring series event fished on Horseshoe Lake at Raker saw 30 enjoy a brilliant contest.

Stuart Burdekin (JT Rogers) led from peg 24 where he fished meat over pellet at 16 metres for 78lb 13oz of carp to 5lb. Rick Johnson (JT Rogers) took 67lb 13oz from fancied peg 21 for second. Fishing corn at the bottom of the far-ledge he took carp to 4lb.

Others: Paul Kozyra (Anglers Corner) 62-11-0, Chris Storey (JT Rogers) 55-6-0, Danny Scott (Team Gem) 53-0-0 and Geoff Wilmore (Armley Angling) 49-2-0.

The charity match held at Tollerton Ponds over the Bank Holiday raised £1,000 to help fund an £80,000 life-saving heart operation for young Amy Lewis from Leeds.
