ST PETER'S School, York, girls relay swimming team won two bronze medals at the National Independent School Relay Championships in London.

Sally Henderson, Pamela Kinnell, Katherine Wackett, and Alice Sunderland, competed against over 40 teams from all over Great Britain and finished third in the medley and freestyle relays.

Four Ashville College pupils aim to make a big splash in the English Schools' Swimming Finals at Sheffield next month.

The Harrogate school's quartet of Euan Miller, Joshua North, Matthew Rider and Tom Papworth qualified from the regional round in the Under 11s medley relay at Hull.

They finished second behind Bradford Grammar School to book their place at the Ponds Forge Pool on Saturday, June 19.

In the freestyle relay Tom Seed, Jack Morris, Papworth and Rider finished third behind Bradford and Huddersfield GS.

The competition was fierce with 22 schools taking part and the Ashville girls squad, comprising Katie Morris, Tabitha Lyons, Francesca Fenn, Phillippa Seager and Grace Miller, finished fourth in both freestyle and medley events.

ST PETER'S sixth former, Kristina Stiller has won a medal for Great Britain at the Munich Junior International Regatta.

The 17-year-old steered the British double scull, competing against 14 national crews from leading European Countries in a time trial spread over three heats.

Stiller, and partner Fern Cotrill, from Gloucester, won their heat beating Swiss, German and Croatian crews, coming in a comfortable five seconds ahead of second-placed Switzerland to win heat medal.

Their 7 minute 40 second time over the 2km Olympic course placed them sixth overall, with Italy first, the Czech Republic second and France third.

The British selectors have still to choose the GB team for the Junior World Championships in Spain in August. Much will depend on Stiller and Cotrill's performances at the National Schools Regatta next week, and also at the final trials to be held at the end of June.

However, there is no doubt that Stiller and Cotrill have great talent, and are still relatively young in terms of international rowing and still have another year in the junior class.
