TWO young basketball players from Bootham School have been selected for county squads.

Will Edwards will be in the North Yorkshire basketball team, while his friend and fellow Year 8 pupil, Richard Grainger, has been selected for the Yorkshire side.

Joint Head of PE at Bootham, Rob Graham, said: "This is great news for both boys and we are all delighted for them.

"I am particularly pleased to see younger players being selected and given the chance to develop their skills with the county side."

Cricket

The schools' cricket season is coming to an end. Fixtures for next Thursday, June 24 are as follows:

Group A Under-13: Minster v Lowfield, Manor v Barlby, Fulford v Huntington, Tadcaster v Sherburn.

Group A U15: Sherburn v Tadcaster, Huntington v Fulford, Barlby v Manor.

Group B U13: Oaklands v Burnholme, Bootham v Millthorpe, Archbishop's v All Saints, Canon Lee v Joseph Rowntree.

Group B U15: All Saints v Archbishop's, Millthorpe v Bootham, Burnholme v Oaklands. Joseph Rowntree has a free week.

Tennis

The fixtures for boys and girls in the State Schools' Tennis League for the week beginning June 21, are as follows:

Boys: Joseph Rowntree v Tadcaster, Huntington v All Saints, Sherburn v Fulford.

Girls: Tadcaster v Joseph Rowntree, Millthorpe v Manor, All Saints v Huntington, Fulford v Sherburn.

If there are any matches outstanding they must be completed asap, and results sent in to Rob Graham, Bootham School, 51 Bootham, YO30 7BU.

All fixtures in the Nestle Schools' Tennis League should by now have been completed and the results sent in.
