YORK City player-boss Chris Brass is looking to make three more additions to his squad before the new Nationwide Conference season kicks off in four weeks' time.

Brass completed the signings of striker Andy Bishop and centre-back Chris Clarke last night, meaning he has now added seven new faces over the summer.

Bishop has agreed two-year terms and Clarke put pen to paper on a 12-month contract, joining fellow new faces Steve Davis, Kevin Donovan, Paul Groves, Paul Robinson and Gary Pearson at Bootham Crescent.

Brass still intends to bolster his squad further, with a new goalkeeper, left-back and striker appearing to be his priority positions

The City boss wants to carry four strikers next season.

Bishop, Robinson and player-coach Lee Nogan are already on board but, should Lev Yalcin decide to move abroad after recently training with Turkish club Antalyaspor, that could open the door for a new forward.

Former Grimsby striker Jonny Rowan, currently on trial with the Minstermen, enhanced his chances of earning a permanent deal with a lively second-half performance during last night's 2-0 friendly defeat against Doncaster and afterwards Brass said: "We will get one, two, or possibly three new faces and they could be some of the players we have on trial. Jonny Rowan has shown a lot of potential in training and did well when he came on.

"We need four strikers and I need to sit down with Lev Yalcin to resolve his situation to see where we are at."

Brass also looked at former Hull defender Mark Robertson and Bedlington Terriers full-back Paul Dunn on the left flank as he looks to give Dave Merris and Bryan Stewart, who was rested night, competition for their places.

The City boss said: "We are looking for another left-back as Dave Merris can play further forward as well. Paul Dunn has been playing at Bedlington and we are monitoring him.

"He played for Newcastle as a kid and has potential. He's lost a lot of fitness going out of full-time football but hopefully he will be hungry and we will have a look at him."

Brass also gave trialist goalkeepers Paul Crichton and Craig Mawson a half each last night and will hand them further pre-season opportunities to prove whether they can challenge Chris Porter for the number one shirt.

"They were both a bit jittery at the start but it's their first game and you get a truer evaluation of people two or three games in," Brass said.

"We will have another look at them and Chris Porter will also get his opportunity. He's still number one and has to make sure he keeps the shirt."

Paul Brayson, Tom Raw and Richard Teesdale will also be hoping for further chances to impress after playing as trialists last night, while Gerry Harrison, who watched the game from the stands, could also figure in City's pre-season programme.

Harrison, who can play in defence and midfield, is a former Burnley team-mate of Brass and has also played for Luton and Sunderland.

He was at Leigh RMI last season but is now training with the Minstermen after a spell out of the game with illness.

Brass said: "We will have a look at Gerry because he's been a very good player who's played at the highest level."

Paul Weller, another former Burnley midfielder, is now on trial at Luton after training at Bootham Crescent earlier in the month.
