ST Andrewgate is now a sought-after address in the shadow of York Minster.

One of its most unusual addresses is number St Andrewgate, a residential development by local architect Tom Adams.

But the street has undergone enormous changes, particularly since it featured in Lord Esher's report in 1968, which aimed to bring people back to live inside the city walls.

In the main photograph, taken in 1960, we can see demolition work to widen the ancient street taking place.
