THIS is the damage caused when a lorry tyre blew - and the heat from the explosion set fire to a marquee it was carrying.
The bizarre accident happened just off the busy A64 at Flaxton, near York, yesterday afternoon.
A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said the trailer unit was transporting tents, plastic tables and chairs when a large tyre blew and the vehicle pulled over.
She said the heat then ignited a marquee before flames spread to a nearby field, damaging two square metres of stubble. The blaze gutted the trailer and its contents, leaving it completely wrecked. Crews used hose-reel jets and breathing apparatus to tackle the flames. The driver was not reported injured and no other vehicles were caught up in the incident, which happened just before 2.30pm.
