Fulford and Copmanthorpe have seized the two promotion places in division four of the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League.

But the battle for the title will go down to the rearranged fixture still to be played between the two teams.

In the meeting between the two teams last week Copmanthorpe took the points with top scorers Karen Hornby and Graeme Butcher vitally winning their last rubber 11-1 in a 63-45 victory. The teams have a games difference of just one in the league.

Unbeaten Judy Marriott and Adrian Shakeshaft ensured Appleton Roebuck defeated relegated Tollerton, while Vicki Binns and Dave Carlin helped Poppleton to two welcome points against Stillington to edge them away from the drop zone.

In the reverse fixture, Barbara Watson and Graham Cookman gained revenge with 26 games just ahead of team-mates Christine Cookman and Ken Stirk as Stillington won 68-40.

Poppleton and York have set up the title decider in division one after Belinda Turnbull and Michael Binns led Poppleton to victory against Dunnington and York beat Fulford seconds.

Danni Baker and Phil Langley won 30 games to lead Wigginton to a comfortable win against title rivals Tadcaster. Both teams still have to play Dunnington, who have won their last two matches to keep clear of the second relegation place.

A good second round from Castlegarth saw them defeat Stillington and backed this win with more points with their encounter at Rowntree Park. Sara Cook and Tim Madgwick won 24 games for Stillington as they bounced back with victory against relegation-threatened Wheldrake.

In division five, Sally Simpson and Dave Nowell won 30 games for Sutton-on-Derwent to ensure their promotion for the fifth year running and also put paid to opponents Heworth's dreams.

Cawood continued on their quest with a win at Wigginton seconds, but lost out to a useful Wistow side who added victory against Wigginton thirds to secure their divisional status.

Cliffe and Wigginton thirds meet tomorrow night in a relegation match after Cliffe beat relegated Strensall.

Division Six could go down to games difference after the top two teams both lost. Cawood stay top but lost out to Appleton Roebuck and New Earswick slipped to third place on games difference and have been replaced by their victors, Castlegarth. Riccall then dented Castlegarth's hopes of top spot with a last gasp win.

Wilberfoss have entered the promotion fight in division eight with two hefty wins against Strensall led by Dinah Burke and Glenn Cole and then Louise and Patrick Wilkinson, winning 30 games, against Cawood. But Wilberfoss have a difficult end-of-season as they have both the leaders to play.

Fiona Green and Luke Pollard led Nestl to the double over Bubwith and return to the top after a win against Bishopthorpe. Cawood ended their promotion hopes after losing to Cliffe, who themselves are fighting against relegation.

Stamford Bridge will be promoted from division ten along with champions Next Generation after Next Generation defeated their closest rivals New Earswick.

Heworth will stay up after their blend of youth and experience overwhelmed Wilberfoss.

Thirteen-year-old Emma Pauw won 34 games with Simon Hardisty for Fulford in division 11 against Poppleton. Fulford now need just one more point for promotion.
