A YORK Territorial Army soldier has been airlifted back to Britain from Iraq after being injured in action.

An Army spokeswoman said the soldier had been treated briefly in hospital before being discharged.

She declined to name the soldier, saying it was Ministry of Defence policy never to identify injured personnel because it wished to protect both them and their families. But it is understood the man is based at a TA unit situated in York, although he does not live in the city.

It is also believed that he may have been saved from more serious injury when his radio pack was struck in the incident.
