THE junction of Acomb Road and Poppleton Road is now controlled by traffic lights which incorporate light-controlled pedestrian crossings.

Some months ago another light-controlled pedestrian crossing was installed less than 100 yards away.

These lights are situated in the town direction near two bus stops.

It was pointed out at the time that when a bus stops in either direction the traffic flow comes to a halt and, with the introduction of these extra lights, the situation would become worse.

One of the reasons for their introduction was to enable older people easier access to Holgate Road post office.

In the Evening Press of August 19 we see that this post office is to close.

Is this another case of lack of forward planning and waste of money by City of York Council and the highways authority?
