YORKSHIRE warmed up for their County Championship game at Scarborough today by turning out in force at Woodhouse Grange yesterday.

The Tykes were at the Hunters The Estate Agent York and District Senior League side for Chris Silverwood's benefit game.

To the delight of the sun-kissed 1,000 spectators Yorkshire fielded the side which was expected to play at North Marine Road today and were rewarded with a run feast.

More than 500 were scored as the county team, who were accompanied by director of cricket David Byas, won by 82 runs.

Yorkshire batted first and amassed 292-8 off their 40 overs. Star of the show was Australian strokemaker Phil Jaques who blasted 110 off only 64 balls and included six sixes and a dozen fours in his innings.

Other main contributors for the county were Joe Sayers (39no), Tim Bresnan (37), Matthew Wood (32) and Richard Phrah (24no).

Fifteen-year-old left arm spinner Andrew Bilton was the pick of the home bowlers with 4-87.

The only Yorkshire player not to get a bat was Matthew Hoggard, but the England bowler came in off his full run when Grange began their reply.

Leading the run chase for the home side was 20-year-old Pakistan 'A' player Kamran Sajid who retired on 54 to give some of his colleagues the chance to face the Yorkshire attack. Other leading batsmen for Grange were Mike Burdett, whose rapid 45 included six sixes, Richard Steele (42no) and Nick Hadfield 29.

Unfortunately beneficiary Silverwood could not attend as he had been called away to play for Yorkshire Seconds at Purley against Surrey. He continued his comeback from injury by taking 3-16 as Surrey made 93-6 in reply to Yorkshire's 202 all out.
