AS one of the Labour councillors who objected to the planning applications which will now lead to the demolition of Burton Croft, I was disappointed to learn that Coun D'Agorne could not ensure either himself or Coun Hill could be present at the planning meeting on August 12 (Evening Press, August 27).

Coun D'Agorne will have known since June that a planning sub-committee was to take place on August 12 when he received his council diary.

Surely a party of two could co-ordinate holidays so as to avoid missing important meetings.

Coun D'Agorne or Coun Hill could have asked what was on the agenda of the planning sub-committee before going on holiday.

Had either of them read your paper in the weeks before, they would have known the Burton Croft application was to be decided on August 12.

Present and future citizens of York have now lost a valuable piece of history.

They should feel let-down by the Liberal Democrat and Green councillors who allowed this to happen.

Coun David Scott,

Labour, Clifton Ward,

Sandringham Street,

York.
