The spoils went to ten-handicapper Terry Nicholson, whose 74-10-64 was two shots clear of his nearest rival.

Divisional winners were Nick Marchant (div one) on 72-5-67; Brian Eccles (div two) 84-17-67 and Darren Duffill (div three) 87-21-66.

Meanwhile, the Forest of Galtres club is running free coaching sessions for beginners every Sunday in September.

The coaching is part of an initiative devised by the English Golf Union and the English Ladies' Golf Association as part of its 'Get into Golf' programme.

Easingwold Golf Club's Graham Rodgers, who plays off 15, will be bidding to take the Wales way to success later this month. The winner of the club's Summer Medal for the Mike Willis Trophy, sponsored by HSBC, has been invited to play in the nation-wide final at the Celtic Manor resort in Newport.

Jubilee cheer

PIKE Hills GC's Hannah Batty is bound for the legendary Wentworth course in Surrey for the second Health Perception Ladies' Championship of Great Britain and Ireland.

Winner of one of the regional championships held at Bedale, she will be among 16 players from across the country competing in the Grand Final on Tuesday, September 28.

The Wentworth showdown is the culmination of more than 24,000 players first competing at their home clubs to qualify for the regional finals.

The winner at Wentworth will also receive an inviation to compete in the Pro-Am at the Weetabix British Open at Royal Birkdale in 2005.

Kears of joy

IT was a case of Kears for souvenirs in York GC's Captain's Junior Day. The winner of the tournament was Oliver Kears with a total of 39 points. The best gross was 82 shot by Michael Burgoine.

Hall of fame

Swallow Hall GC's Frank Dawson was in ace mood when he holed in one at the 135-yard par-three fourth hole at the Swallow Hall club. Dawson used a wood iron on the hole.

Meanwhile, the club's first charity day was a major success was more than £900 raised for St Martin's Hospice.

AFTER Kilnwick Percy's junior stableford was washed out, there will be hope of better conditions to greet the club's junior match-play competition this weekend.

Junior captain Kyle Mathers and his vice-captain Lee Eastoe will head the seeds in the later rounds. The ladies match-play title, meanwhile, was won by Carol Kilford, with both the singles and pairs men's events now through to the semi-finals stages.

The club's Am-Am strokeplay event was won by Mark Gatenby, Chris Saltmer, Graham Martin and Phil Curtis on 128 - two shots ahead of their nearest rivals.

In the Bank Holiday Texas scramble Mathers, Kevin Beattie and Toby and Wills Gowthorpe posted the best gross of 63, while the leading nett score of 57 went to Mark Harrison, Robert Lafrance, Mal Durney and G Darby.

IT was Burns' delight in the battle for Fulford GC's annual Jubilee Jug.

Elizabeth Burns hoisted the trophy aloft after a nett three-under-par 71, but only on count-back after Cath Hewerdine and Beryl Harding also potsed scores of 71.

Ann Robinson had the lowest gross of 82 after she finished a stroke behind the leading trio.
