MAN of the moment Danny Brough (pictured) has stormed into the York RL record books twice in the past two weeks.

For those who don't already know, the 21-year-old scrum-half scored a hat-trick of tries and eight goals for a total of 28 points in the match against Dewsbury a fortnight ago to overtake Graham Steadman's club record of 318 points in a season, set in 1984-85, and equal Vic Yorke's club record of 146 goals in a season, set in 1957-58. And then last week he added another nine goals against Skolars to improve the goals-in-a-season best.

For those eager statisticians among you, above is a breakdown of where Brough's points have come this year.

TALKING of Vic Yorke, an amusing little tale about his kicking exploits came from lifetime York RL fan Gary Hall this week.

Hall, who does the scoreboard at Huntington Stadium matches (as well as saving rugby clubs in between doing his full-time job), explained: "As a boy I used to put the numbers on the scoreboard at Clarence Street (not much changes apart from the technology). Vic Yorke would clear the scoreboard and the high trees and the heavy leather ball would land on the bowling greens on the other side of the ground.

"On one occasion I watched the ball skittle all the bowls much to the chagrin of the bowlers." Heh heh.

Yorke was to be guest of honour at today's game.

BROUGH isn't the only National League player to set a club record this year.

Mick Nanyn has broken Whitehaven's points in a season record that now stands at 362 from 28 tries and 125 goals.

The centre scored a club record 32 points in Haven's 48-22 NL1 win at Batley a fortnight ago, with four tries and eight goals.

Barry Eaton, meanwhile, is closing in on Batley's goals and points in a season records, needing two goals to equal the 139 he set himself last season and 12 points to equal the 300 by Simon Wilson in 1994-95.

The scrum-half, who also holds Dewsbury's records for goals (169) and points (394) in a season (1999-00), has played in all 28 of the Bulldogs' matches this year, extending his amazing scoring sequence to 63 consecutive matches since joining the club at the start of last term.

Likewise, Leigh's Neil Turley needs eight points to equal the club record of 426 that he set himself in 2001-02. The full-back's 418 points consist of 24 tries and 163 goals, including four drop goals. He has played in 25 of Leigh's 29 league and cup matches.
