Selby were crushed 36-8 at Huddersfield YMCA in their Yorkshire One seasonal opener.

They were up against it before the kick-off with skipper Andrew Pocklington unable to get to the game because of a cancelled flight on the return from his honeymoon, Jason Cicero having to pull out because of a domestic problem and Shaun Austerfield playing despite a knee injury.

YMCA were soon in their stride with a try by Marcus Kersey-Brown converted by centre Stuart Morgan.

Dan Porter's penalty reduced the arrears but Morgan obliged with the boot again when Selby were caught offside.

On the half hour, when YMCA captain and former Selby player Tim Horner scored under the posts after the visitors lost the ball in an attacking position. Morgan's conversion made it 17-3.

Worse followed as YMCA regained the ball after a try-saving tackle by Chris McDonald and Morgan scored a try which he also converted.

Selby had a decent spell of pressure and they reduced the arrears after 48 minutes when the Sandhill Lane side won a line-out and flanker Duncan Phillips drove over the line.

But Kersey-Brown scored his second try and No 8 Neil Walker completed a good day for the home side with another touchdown, improved by Morgan.
