Work has begun on a £4.5 million project to upgrade and refurbish one of the UK's top family holiday parks on the east coast..

South Wales-based Midas Construction is building a new indoor leisure pool, and converting an existing bar into an arcade and cafe, bar and restaurant at Haven's Primrose Valley Holiday Park, between Filey and Bridlington.

Some 100 staff will be involved in the project, which is being carried out on behalf of the Bourne Leisure Group, which owns and operates the park. Cardiff-based architects Holder Mathias has produced the designs.

Bourne Leisure is the UK's biggest domestic holiday operator with the group comprising Haven, British Holidays, Butlins and Warner. Primrose Valley is one of 40 holiday parks operated by Haven and British Holidays in England, Scotland and Wales.

The project is part of an overall £6 million development at Primrose Valley which caters for about 50,000 holidaymakers each year.

The park has recently acquired a further 50 acres of land where another 500 caravans will be sited for the 2005 season.
