Danny Spence pushed forward for The Rail but a strong challenge sent the ball careering out for a corner and him to hospital with a dislocated shoulder.
Marchant took his place on the field and slotted home from the resulting corner to put The Rail ahead.
Esh Winning's Richard Paxton levelled the scores on the stroke of half-time to send the tie to a replay tomorrow night, kick off 7.45pm.
The scheduled Northern Counties East League premier clash with Goole on Wednesday has been postponed. Goole failed to progress after bowing out 2-0 at Cammell Laird. Rivals Selby Town also slipped up 3-0 at Mossley.
York City's youth team lost 2-0 at home to Hartlepool United on Saturday.
