SINCE the article reporting the proposed closure of a series of sub Post Office branches in York, I have been awaiting the deluge of letters on this subject. Surprisingly, there has only been a trickle.
What I find astounding is that the proposals call for the closure not only of my local post office, but also the next nearest one.
If the Bishopthorpe Road Post Office, with all its passing trade in a busy shopping area and the additional custom from a closed Albemarle Road Post Office, is up for closure I fear for the future of all but city-centre branches.
With the growth of Internet and mail-order shopping, sub Post Office branches could have a future as collection points for all those times when people are out when goods are delivered.
