PETER Evely's letter, following my suggestions of the possibility of building military-type slip roads from the A64 on to the racecourse and subsequent exit road via Bishopthorpe Road back onto the west-bound carriageway of the A64, quoted a figure of £4 million.
If this is for the benefit not of 16 race meetings a year but over a period of, say, ten years then it does not seem such an horrendous amount.
Some years ago it was known that a section of the Army - the Royal Engineers? - would carry out similar work using this as an exercise for their troops. Has consideration been given to an approach to the relevant authorities?
