AP COX is right to highlight the continuing problem of luggage trolleys at York station (Letters, August 30). Unfortunately, some customers remove trolleys from the station premises and do not return them.
This requires a programme of regular replacement and 25 new trolleys are to be delivered soon.
One option would be to introduce coin-deposit trolleys, but we continue to favour a free access arrangement which, despite the loss of some trolleys, is more convenient for passengers.
We try to make trolleys available on all through-platforms, where space is available, and GNER staff are also on hand to help passengers with heavy luggage.
With more than five million passengers passing through York station a year, there will be occasions at peak times when all the available trolleys have been taken, but we manage this as best we can.
The availability of trolleys has nothing to do with which train operator passengers use.
