NESTL 'B' team won York Amateur Bowling Association veterans' section triples crown.

They beat Holgate 20-11 in the final at Glen Gardens, where fine weather graced the climax of the competition after it had earlier been dogged by the summer downpours.

At the mid-point Holgate were trailing only 9-8, but Nestl scored four unanswered shots on the next three ends. By 15 ends their advantage was 15-11, from which they never looked back.

The winning rink was Jack Salway, Bill Dent and skip Fred Clayden, who deputised for Alan Simpson.

Trophies were presented by veterans' league chairman Doug Petty.

The annual match between the executive and the division champions at Shipton ended in a win for the champions on all six rinks.

Before the match all the champions were presented with their trophies by David Harrison, president of the York Amateur Bowling Association.

Double triumph

Wigginton Bowls Club claimed a double when they landed the Wenlock Trophy to add to their Challis of York Country League title.

In the final the Wigginton ranks fended off Wheldrake, who were hosting the finals day at which all nine clubs were represented.

The double-winners received the Wenlock Trophy from Mrs June Challis, a founder member of the Country League, whose runners-up were Tockwith.
