AN ambulance on a 999 call crashed on its side after it was in collision with a car in North Yorkshire.

The accident involving a Tees East and North Yorkshire Ambulance Service vehicle and a Hyundai Accent happened at about 5.30pm yesterday.

Nobody was seriously hurt in the crash on the A64, at the junction with the Malton bypass.

An ambulance service spokeswoman said a two-man medical team was heading eastbound to an emergency call.

There was no patient in the emergency vehicle, she confirmed, and after the crash another ambulance was sent to the scene.

The two ambulance crew members were taken to Scarborough District Hospital with minor injuries and shock.

One person from the Hyundai was taken to York Hospital with minor chest injuries.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said accident investigators cleared the scene by 7.30pm and the crash caused some traffic congestion.
