A REMARKABLE exhibition of glass went on display today in York.
Fairfax House in Castlegate plays host to an important collection of 18th century English glass.
The 350 pieces, brought together over 40 years by collector John Butler, represent a distinctive style of decoration.
Museum director Peter Brown said: "Most of the pieces on display were intended for use while eating and drinking, but each piece possesses an exquisite beauty that elevates these items beyond the purely functional.
"By the 18th century English glassmakers had perfected a style and quality which dominated world production for the next 150 years."
The exhibition runs until the end of the year. For more information, phone 01904 655543.
